Green Day Perform Surprise Show In San Francisco

Green Day performed another surprise show at a small venue in San Francisco, Tuesday night. The set was part of the opening night of the Rip Curl Surf Competition, hosted by the Surfrider Foundation, an organization that advocates for the protection of oceans and beaches. Taking place at the Mezzanine in downtown San Francisco, hints of the band’s performance was initially tweeted by the Surfrider Foundation’s Twitter: “Wouldn’t it be cool if Green Day showed up at your party and played a set. Prepare to have your minds blown.” It was later confirmed an hour before Green Day’s set by lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, who tweeted: “Green Day live at the Mezzanine in San Francisco with Kut U Up and Ty Segall benefit for Surfrider Foundation. NOW!” Kut U Up was one of the supporting bands for Green Day and Blink 182’s Pop-Disaster Tour in 2002.

Green Day has been surprising fans with these small intimate shows to showcase new material, having most recently performed on October 27th in New York City…
