NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A 19-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark Friday morning off New Smyrna Beach, the second shark attack in Florida this week.
Daniel True was attacked about 11 a.m. about a quarter-mile south of the jetty, officials said.
True suffered lacerations to his foot and ankle and took himself to the hospital to get stitches.
On Wednesday, Shane Lancaster, also 19, said he was surfing on Crescent Beach when he was bitten by a shark that he estimated to be 6 feet long.
“He just grabbed a hold of my leg real quick and he was gone,” Lancaster said. “I think I scared him … by jumping off my board.”
When Lancaster saw his leg covered with blood, he called to a lifeguard for help.
