HAPPINESS turned to heartbreak for grommets at Bells Beach yesterday when security guards refused to let them keep legend Kelly Slater’s broken surfboard.
Young frothers flocked to the shoreline to retrieve parts of the board, which snapped during a tough heat against Jan Juc wildcard Nic Muscroft.
But security guards were told to return the board to the 11-time world champ.
Fans of Muscroft had luck on their side, with the 29-year-old giving away his board to young locals before staying around for autographs…
