A dead 42-foot whale rests in the surf at Ocean View early Monday morning after washing up on Sunday. Cause of death is pending but the whale showed a deep 1.5-foot gash on the back of its head, which fractured the whale’sskull, said Susan Barco, the aquarium’s senior scientist. (Adrin Snider)
