Big End of Summer Swell at San Clemente Pier

These reader submitted photos were taken at the San Clemente Pier last week during the big swell sent our way by a storm in New Zealand. High surf brough waves in the 15- to 20-foot range, mostly along California’s south facing beaches.

“The waves were so large that water was shooting up between the slats in the pier,” said the photographer Racheal Feinberg. “I don’t know the surfer. He just happened to be the one of four guys that caught that particular wave.”

Feinberg said she was walking with her camera on the beach trail taking photos and decided to shoot the half dozen or so surfers she saw from the pier.
