Drifting surfers rescued from Cornwall cove

4 September 2011 Last updated at 04:40 ET

Two surfers have been rescued off the Cornish coast after drifting 200 yards (180m) out to sea, coastguards said.

The man and woman, who were in their early 20s, were rescued from Poldhu Cove at 21:00 BST on Saturday.

A helicopter from RNAS Culdrose winched them from the water. The Lizard lifeboat assisted the rescue.

Coastguards said the surf was strong and had carried them out to sea. Both were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital suffering from hypothermia.
