Swimmer arrested on Mass. beach

Updated 02:36 p.m., Sunday, August 28, 2011

HULL, Mass. (AP) — State police say a swimmer fleeing troopers who ordered him out of rough surf at Nantasket Beach in Hull has been arrested.

State police spokesman David Procopio said Sunday afternoon that onlookers told troopers about the man swimming in rough surf off the beach south of Boston. It had been closed because of unsafe conditions during Tropical Storm Irene.

Procopio said the man began to come ashore, but walked away from the troopers when he got to shallow water, then ran across Hull Shore Drive. Police caught up with him and took him into custody.

Police said 23-year-old Daniel Jacques was released on bail on a charge of disorderly conduct and will be arraigned at Hingham District Court.
