MYFOXNY.COM – A public service memorial was held for Dan Bobis on Long Island Sunday night.

Bobis, 32, was a math teacher at Long Beach High School whose body was found in waters off western Indonesia.

Before he disappeared, Bobis apparently hit another surfer’s board after emerging from the barrel of a 10-foot wave. His leash broke and his board washed ashore according to his wife Rachel Bobis.

Bobis’ body was found four days later on the coast by fishermen. The Indonesian search and rescue team said the body was found about 20 miles from where Bobis had last been seen

Bobis was an environmental activist who started a surf club at the high school and was considered an experienced surfer and an ocean lover.
