Last respects for ardent surfer

THE Durban surfing community will on Saturday pay their last respects to fellow surfer Michael Livesey, who was killed in a car accident at the weekend.

Up to 120 surfers will paddle out to sea from uShaka Beach to scatter flowers in honour of Livesey, 20, who died after he was hit by a car while skateboarding.

Family spokesperson Dean Macpherson said they hoped the surfers’ action would raise awareness against negligent driving in residential areas.

“The surfers’ event will start at 7am and members of the public are welcome to stand on the pier and bring flowers in honour of Michael.

“The family at this time are devastated but are overwhelmed at the incredible love shown by the wider community of Durban North,” said Macpherson.
