Remembering 9/11
At 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, Long Beach, New York, hosted a 9/11 memorial with a beach mass and ecumenical service held at National Boulevard beach.
The service was followed by a paddle out with fire and police department personnel, military and lifeguards to honor the fallen on 9/11. Many firefighters and police who died in the attack lived in Long Beach and Rockaway and were surfers.
Local surfers were joined by professional surfers from the Quiksilver Pro New York in the paddle out tribute to the victims. Over 350 surfers paddled out.
