Surfer presumed drowned

A man is presumed drowned after being swept out to sea at Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape, said the National Sea Rescue Institute.
Spokesman Craig Lambinon said: “At 06h33 NSRI Port Alfred volunteer duty sea rescue crew were activated following reports of a drowning in progress at East Beach.”
The 20-year-old local man had reportedly entered the surf with a friend when he was knocked off his feet by a wave and swept out to sea.
The NSRI search was assisted by police and emergency services. The man was not found and is presumed drowned…
