Surfers behaving badly: Council to display code of conduct

A SURFERS’ code of conduct is on its way to the eastern beaches after Waverley councillors supported its introduction, which is aimed at keeping all beach users safe.

Bondi surfer Kim McMahon gave an impassioned speech at last week’s council meeting, saying increased surf rage meant there was a growing need for guidelines at all council beaches.

A group of surfers has proposed having surfboard-shaped information boards installed at Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly which outline acceptable behaviour in the water. They also want the information on council flyers and online.

Speaking to the Courier, Ms McMahon said the surf was getting more dangerous because of an increased number of people.
