Swell weekend for surfers from Fraser Island to Gold Coast

IT SHOULD be a ripping weekend for surfboard riders, with swells to 3.5m from Fraser Island to the Gold Coast. Weather Bureau forecaster Michelle Berry said the Gold Coast would have the best of the swell.”It will start decreasing Monday and should have eased significantly by Tuesday,” she said.

Gold Coast City Council chief lifeguard Warren Young said bigger sets had been up to 2.5m yesterday and beaches were holding up well.

“It’s a strong swell, squaring up from the east,” Mr Young said. “All beaches are open and people are keeping in nice and close.

The swell’s a bit off for (good waves at) Burleigh but people are getting waves at Rainbow Bay and Snapper Rocks...
