Typhoon Muifa hits Okinawa

Late on Thursday (local time), August 4th, Typhoon Muifa is forecast to affect the island of Okinawa located in southern Japan.

Late on Thursday (local time), August 4th, Typhoon Muifa is forecast to affect the island of Okinawa located in southern Japan. Heavy downpours, strong winds and big waves are expected to hit the region in the coming hours; power outages are also likely. Local authorities issued storm warnings for Okinawa and Kagoshima prefectures. Muifa is likely to cause severe road, air and maritime transport disruptions. On August 4th, at Okinawa airport, flights have been cancelled until further notice. Further flights delays and cancellations cannot be excluded across the affected area, especially at Naha Airport. The typhoon should bring severe meteorological conditions until at least August 6th, and might trigger flooding and landslides.
