Wind surfer stranded, rescued from Davenport cliff

DAVENPORT — A 56-year-old man was rescued from a cliff after becoming stranded Wednesday night.

The man was windsurfing in the Davenport Landing area that day and went into the water a little before 6 p.m., according to Sgt. Steve Carney of the Sheriff’s Office.

He became stranded after the wind carried him south of the area. He climbed up to a cove on a 150-foot cliff, where he apparently planned to spend the night until he could get back on shore the next day, Carney said. The man had a glow-stick, flare gun and whistle with him.

His wife became concerned when her husband didn’t come home. She found his car still parked near where he’d gone windsurfing and contacted the sheriff’s office around 8:30 p.m…
