NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) – Volusia County Beach patrol officials say a teen was bitten by a shark in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday.
Capt. Tamra Marris, public information officer for Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue, said a 13-year-old girl from Boca Raton was bit on her calf.
Marris said the bite caused a small puncture wound while the teen was surfing in waist-deep water at about 4:38 p.m. on Sunday.
Witnesses told officials they didn’t see the shark.
The teen was treated and released at the beach.
Marris said this marks the sixth shark bite of the year.
