Shark bites man fishing off Beaufort inlet

BEAUFORT INLET, N.C. – A man bit by a shark out to sea will need surgery according to Morehead City authorities.

Fire officials tell 9OYS the man was out fishing with several people about 7-10 miles offshore when he jumped out of the boat and into the water to cool off. Officials tell us the man described it as “landing on the shark”. It happened around 2:20 Thursday afternoon. Officials say he was bit on the lower leg.

Authorities aren’t releasing the shark attack victim’s name, but tell us he will need surgery for his injuries.

The Carteret County News-Times reports the victims is 54 year old Donnie White from Lexington, South Carolina. The News-Times says White was on a boat called the Sea Jewel owned by a Morehead City resident named Jay Harris.
