VIRGINIA BEACH — Once the winds died down and the storms left the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, the East Coast Surfing Championships got back in the water Sunday. But it was a condensed version.

“Definitely a condensed version today, definitely. We had a big teamwork from all the volunteers. The judges and everyone hunkered down for the storm and came back early this morning and set right back up, said George Alvarez, general manager of the ECSC.

Alvarez added that they’d probably go until about 4:00.

All the big vendor tents were gone and the judges reverted to old school techniques- just sitting near the water and watching the competition. Beachgoers returned to the sand to take it all in.

“It’s great enjoying the beautiful weather and the rest of the ECSC,” said Nan Rafter.
