FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 1st Annual London Surf / Film Festival – October 13th- 15th 2011

October 13-15th 2011 sees the 1st annual London Surf / Film Festival hit the UK. Hosted at the iconic Riverside Studios on the banks of the Thames the festival is a showcase for the cream of international surf filmmaking. Across three nights we will be screening the pick of productions from established and emerging independent filmmakers, features from internationally acclaimed directors, UK premiers as well as the best short film productions from Britain and Ireland’s leading surf filmmakers. Alongside the screenings will be Q+A sessions with leading figures from the world of surfing as well as a pop up mixed media gallery that celebrates what it means to be a surfer while blowing the lid off perceptions of what ‘surf art’ is all about. Fusing together surf, film, art and photography from waveriding’s most exciting creative’s, the festival is a celebration of contemporary surf culture.

We’re pleased to announce that submissions are now open for the London Surf / Film Festival International programme. We invite entries from across the globe and across surfing genres. Surfing and surf culture are wide open to creative interpretation and we welcome films that explore all aspects and angles of surfing from documentary to stop-frame to animation and anything in between.

Films selected for screening as part of the international programme will be competing for prestigious awards including Best Film and Best Cinematography, as voted for by the screening panel, comprised of experts from within the worlds of surfing, filmmaking and media. Films will also be competing for the coveted London Surf Film Festival Viewer’s Choice award. Deadline for submissions to the international programme is August 8th 2011.

The Shorties is a key part of the festival and open exclusively to surf filmmakers from or based in Britain and Ireland. The short film competition is a platform for established and emerging home-grown talent to flex their creative muscles and an opportunity for the best to be selected for screening as part of the festival programme. To be considered for selection, the short films must have a running time of five minutes or under and have been created after March 2009 by filmmakers from or based in Britain or Ireland. Submissions to the Shorts Competition are open from 1st July-26th August 2011.
