ORLANDO —
Former professional surfer and kidney transplant recipient Rich Salick has died.
A spokeswoman from the Florida chapter of the National Kidney Foundation said Salick’s death Monday was the result of complications from kidney failure.
The 62-year-old was the founder of the NKF Pro Am Surf Festival, which is held over Labor Day in Cocoa Beach.
He was the No. 1 ranked surfer on the East Coast in the 24 to 35 age group in 1980.
He was inducted into the Surfing Hall of Fame in 2000.
