Charges to be dropped against Chicago surfer

A Chicago man arrested in January after being caught surfing in Lake Michigan has agreed to perform community service in exchange for the charges against him being dropped.

Forty-year-old Rex Flodstrom maintains that surfing isn’t a crime.

But his attorney, Ed Genson, said Thursday that he agreed to the 20 hours of community service out of respect for the officer who pulled him out of the lake on Jan. 17.

Flodstrom was arrested after being caught surfing at Oak Street beach. He says the “waves were pretty decent that day.”
