WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — While some folks are leaving our beaches, others are packing up and heading to the waves. The surf’s up at Wrightsville beach despite the potential dangers that comes with hitting these waves. Although the storm is not here yet, it’s already causing a surge in the ocean and that has surfers excited.
The water was packed today with people trying to take full advantage of sets that are only beginning to build and will most likely get bigger tomorrow. Surfers say they are looking forward to the waves getting even bigger as the storm gets closer in the next couple of days.
Surfer John Perry said, “There’s definitely a decent wave out there. They’re just kind of closing out right now. It might get a little better when the storm gets a little closer and the waves get a little bit bigger.”
And remember, with the bigger waves, come strong rip currents. Lifeguards have red flags flying and say they recommend that no one go in the water unless you are a very experienced swimmer.
