Top surfer’s boards stolen

OLD Bar professional surfer Oscar Scanes says he was “pretty happy” with his fifth placing in the junior division of the Australian Open titles in Sydney last weekend.

The shine was quickly lost, however, when the 19-year-old returned home to find eight boards had been stolen from the Old Bar house he shares with his parents.

They were worth about $7500 and belonged to Oscar and his brother Jack.

They were not covered by individual insurance, but Oscar is hoping his family’s contents insurance may help to soften the blow.

Oscar lives downstairs in a house, and his parents upstairs. He had gone off to Sydney to compete.

“While I was away someone got in and took the boards which were all in a row against the wall,” he said.

He reckons they’ll be easy to identify, and hopes locals will keep an eye out for them and report any sightings to Taree Police.

All eight are brand new and custom-made.

Mostly white in colour, they have different coloured rails, but…
